Tired of pulling out every piece in your closet while trying to assemble an outfit? Matching sets might be the perfect, ahem, match for you. The style, which—you guessed it—consists of matching tops and bottoms, is as convenient as it is fashionable. The trend took off during COVID lockdown in 2020, when cozy athleisure became a work-from-home uniform for many.

But the buzz surrounding pairable pieces has hardly gone away as of late. In the March Madness bracket of Reviewed’s Style Check newsletter, matching sets came out on top of every fashion trend, beating out strong sartorial contenders like high-waisted pants and the hair scrunchie. Plus, now that in-person events are creeping back onto calendars, you can find matching sets featuring everything from polished suits to, of course, loungewear. If you’re thinking about trying the trend, consider these eight sets. (But if you fall in love with one piece, don’t be afraid to shop a single style on its own.)

If you’re tempted to stay in your pajamas while working from home, try a put-together pair like this bestselling Target set from Stars Above. Reviewers rave over the Perfectly Cozy Lounge Pajama Shorts, calling them the “softest ever”—and after our own reviewer tested styles from the Stars Above pajama line, she was eager to stock up on more.

The casual style, which includes convenient pockets, is available in light gray and charcoal in women’s sizes XS to XXL. For a cozy co-ord you can wear while catching up on Zoom calls—or catching up on Netflix—pair it with the Perfectly Cozy Lounge Sweatshirt, which comes in the same range of colors and sizes.

With so many athleisure options in similar colors, Lululemon offers several styles you can combine to create a matching set. Try the brand’s bestselling Align High-Rise Jogger, which is available in women’s sizes 0 to 20. Our tester called the “buttery soft” pants an “absolute must have'' if you’re looking for comfy, casual pants.

Pair the versatile leggings with the Loungeful Hoodie in black, which is also available in women’s sizes 0 to 20 and is made of what the brand describes as “soft, premium fleece fabrics.”

And if you want to rock matching Lululemon from head to toe, complete the ensemble with a pair of black Blissfeel running shoes, the company’s first-ever sneaker that touts a “women-first” fit.

High-end basics brand Madewell offers a plethora of two-piece options. Try two trends in one with this set featuring a shacket, a shirt/jacket combination, that’s all the rage. The vintage-inspired Drakefield Shirt-Jacket is perfect for layering and is available in off white in women’s sizes XXS to XXL. Pair it with the Garment-Dyed Pull-On Utility Shorts, which include a stretchy waistband for comfort and four deep pockets for convenience. They come in women’s waist sizes 23 to 33 in the matching off-white shade.

When it comes to athleisure staples, two is better than one. Try the Ultra High Rise Elation 7/8 Tight from Athleta, available in white and purple in women’s sizes XXS to 3X. Our tester tried a version of the fitness brand’s popular Elation 7/8 leggings and found the tights both supportive and squat-proof.

Pair the high-waisted style with the Exhale Bra, which comes in 11 colors—including the same shades of white and purple—in XXS to 3X. Over 1,000 reviewers have raved about the style, which features removable pads. “There's enough coverage in the front and the back detail is really pretty,” one writes.

What could be better than two ways to wear your fave outfit? Three, of course. Free People’s Sunray Set features harem-inspired pants with a foldover waistband that can be pulled up to transform into a strapless bandeau jumpsuit. The set also includes a long T-shirt to toss on for anything from a day at the beach to a trip to the grocery store. It’s available in women’s sizes XS to XL in olive, bronze and black.

Would a list of matching sets be complete without some tie-dye? Several reviewers called Old Navy’s Mid-Rise Vintage Street Jogger Sweatpants “the most comfortable jogger I’ve ever worn.” The soft-washed fleece style comes in 16 colors in women’s sizes XS to 4X. Several of the shades match with the brand’s Vintage Specially Dyed Crew-Neck Sweatshirt, which comes in 13 colors in the same size range. Reviewers also commented on the sweatshirt’s comfortable fit, with one remarking that it “wears like a hug.”

For a make-your-own matching set, find any two of Girlfriend Collective’s athleticwear styles in the same color—you’ll find a range of both “essential” and limited edition shades. Reviewed’s tester found that the Float High Rise Leggings pass the squat test—no show-through when you move and bend—and don’t pill easily. The style, which the company claims is made from 17 plastic water bottles, is available in women’s sizes XXS to 6XL and in a very current shade of burgundy called “berry.” For a matching top in the same hue, try the Luca V-Neck Tank, which the brand says is made from 90% recycled bottles and 10% spandex. It comes in sizes XXS to 6XL.

While the trend of high-waisted pants may have come in second in our style bracket, that doesn’t mean they can’t play nice with matching sets. Try the High Waisted Linen-blend Pull on Wide Leg Pant from Express, which comes in both bright yellow and classic white in women’s sizes XXS to XL. For a coordinated look that shows a tiny bit of skin, add the brand’s Linen-Blend Tie Front Puff Sleeve Cropped Top, which comes in seven colors (including those two) in the same size range.

For sweatpants with a stylish twist, try the Terry Cotton and Modal Jogger from Amazon’s Daily Ritual brand. The tapered pants boast over a thousand 5-star ratings, with one reviewer pointing out that they’re “warm but also breathable” and “cute in a relaxed way.” They’re available in 20 colors in women’s sizes XS to XL. If you opt for the camel, black or lilac colors, you can pair the pants with Daily Ritual’s Ultra Soft Cardigan and Crop Top Sweater knit set, which comes in the same shades and sizes. Wear the crop top on its own to show off the cute criss-cross detail in the back, or layer with the matching sweater for a twin set that pulls together your three-piece (sweat) suit.
