Whether light or heavy, crepe is a luxurious looking fabric that doesn't require much embellishment to stand out—although you can certainly add some glitz if you'd like. It's a beautiful option for a classic, traditional dress and is versatile enough to work with almost any bridal style.
To break it down, there are two basic types of crepe fabric: thin and heavy. Thin crepe fabric will feel lightweight and gauzy, with a bit of a crinkled look to it. Heavy crepe fabric, which is what you'll most often find on wedding gowns, is smooth, thick, and comfortably stretchy. The best part about this material is that it looks lovely on its own, but it also pairs nicely with beading or lace.

When looking for the perfect crepe wedding dress for your big day, make sure you know which type of crepe you'd like to wear—lightweight or thick. As previously mentioned, a light crepe, like georgette crepe, is gauzy, a little crinkly, and great for summer weddings. A thick crepe, like a spandex or heavy crepe, is stretchier, more structured, comfortable, and can be worn during any season. Also, look for a dress that fits your vibe and bridal style, as the material is very versatile and can be used with any wedding dress silhouette.
How easily your crepe gown will wrinkle depends on the type of fabric. A lightweight crepe dress will crease faster and more easily than a thicker and heavier crepe gown. Additionally, a stretchy, almost scuba-like, crepe will hold its shape and is an ideal wedding gown fabric.
Crepe is so versatile that it can be worn at any time of the year. That said, a lightweight and gauzy crepe material is going to look more appropriate for warm-weather nuptials, in the summer specifically. A thick, heavier crepe may work better for fall, winter, and spring.
Again, this really depends on the type of crepe. Thin, gauzy crepe may require some shapewear and you might want to wear something smoothing underneath your gown. Thick, heavy crepe is almost like shapewear on its own, and may not need much underneath.
