When it comes to formal events during the summer, like weddings, southerners know all the tricks to keeping cool without sacrificing style. For women, it's sleeveless dresses and sweat-proof makeup. For men, it's sweat-wicking seersucker suits.

Seersucker suits may have started in the South (the fabric was first made into suits by New Orleans-based designer, Joseph Haspel, back in 1909), but it's a functional and fashionable choice for wedding attire around the world. An all-cotton fabric, commonly striped or checkered, the material features a crinkled texture and breezy quality. The puckered appearance is also created by weaving the fabric on twin looms at different speeds, which further aids in its lightweight, breathable, and wrinkle-resistant quality.

What's more, seersucker suits have a vintage vibe that will fit in perfectly at a retro-inspired wedding, especially if the couple has a classic car waiting to whisk them away after the reception. This stylish suit seamlessly transitions from day to night, and the breathable fabric allows anyone to dance the night away without breaking a sweat.

Below, we've rounded up our favorite seersucker suits perfectly suited for your summer wedding.

Material: Beige cotton-blend seersucker | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

This two-button suit features notch lapels and two front patch pockets, giving it that distinctly Southern style. The beige color would stand out amongst a vibrant, floral-inspired color palette bursting with bright pinks, yellows, and lush greenery.

Material: Navy cotton-seersucker | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

This sharp suit, crafted from naturally airy cotton-seersucker, is an elevated take on the typically more casual fabric. It has a relaxed, unstructured shape that vibes perfectly with beachside nuptials.

Material: 100% cotton seersucker | Fit: Classic fit | Care: Dry Clean

Made of pure 100% cotton, this classic seersucker suit takes you back to the good ol' days. The nostalgic blue and white pinstripes are a definitive choice for a man who loves vintage style. The jacket can be paired with the matching pants, or worn more casually on its own.

Material: 100% cotton seersucker | Fit: Slim fit | Care: Dry Clean

A red striped seersucker suit is about as classic as it gets. This one is cut in a slim, trim fit, with a notched lapel and traditional two-button closure. Pair it with a fun pattern, as the model showcases here, or go for a more timeless look with a white button-down.

Material: 100% cotton seersucker | Fit: Classic fit | Care: Dry Clean

Haspel literally invented the seersucker suit in New Orleans, which makes this tan option from the brand a time-honored and vintage-inspired set. Proof that it stands the test of time, this seersucker suit fits into today's laidback aesthetic and feels both cool and sophisticated.

Material: Cotton/elastane seersucker | Fit: Classic fit | Care: Dry Clean

The traditional seersucker suit jacket is upgraded to a modern slim fit with this style from J. Crew. The all-American clothing brand took their best-selling Ludlow unstructured suit, and dressed it in a cool and crisp seersucker fabric—keeping the jacket unlined and unpadded for unlimited ways to wear it.

Material: 92% Wool, 5% Polyester, 3% Spandex | Fit: Tailored fit | Care: Dry Clean

If you've ever worn a suit in the summer, you know just how quickly you can overheat. The puckered design of seersucker helps keep the fabric off of your body to promote ventilation, and as a bonus, it doesn't show wrinkling. We love this dove gray hue for a hint of color that doesn't distract.

Material: Shell: 99% Cotton, 1% Elastane; Sleeve Lining: 68% Cotton, 32% Polyester | Fit: Classic fit | Care: Dry Clean

This dapper-looking suit proves that seersucker can be sophisticated. Featuring three pockets and a button cuff detail, it's one of the finer expressions of the fabric.

Material: Cotton seersucker | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

The light sand color of this number feels right at home at a summer wedding. If you're headed to a casual affair, opt for this unexpected suit (featuring shorts!), that is effortlessly dapper thanks to Todd Snyder.

Material: Polyester seersucker | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

For a budget pick, we’re loving this powder blue seersucker suit jacket from ASOS. The easy-to-wear, yet the polished striped design looks smart and is versatile enough to wear with a print or solid-colored shirt.

Material: Cotton-blend seersucker | Fit: Athletic fit | Care: Dry Clean

When Tommy Hilfiger does seersucker, you know he’s going to do this fabric right. This suit comes in the traditional blue and white striped pattern, upgraded with a modern athletic fit that offers all-day ease.

Material: Beige cotton-blend seersucker | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

The cream hue of this seersucker suit brings out the beautiful texture of the fabric. Add a pop of color with a bright patterned shirt to complete the look.

Material: Beige cotton-blend seersucker | Fit: Slim | Care: Dry Clean

When you want to make a good impression, there's nothing like a box check pattern to give a garment that formal, smart look. A slim fit accentuates the natural lines of your body, while the box check pattern creates an optical illusion—giving the wearer a subtle sense of added height.

Material: Italian cotton seersucker | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

For a fresh, formal look, this grey and white cotton seersucker set will definitely make you stand out. It looks great paired with a white shirt, as seen here—or have some fun with a pastel-colored pick.

Material: Polyester/cotton blend seersucker | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

Striped seersucker looks crisp and bright on any hot summer day, and this softly tailored silhouette isn’t too stuffy for the season. It's left unlined for a comfortable fit and is styled with notched lapels, three pockets, and a three-button placket for the finishing touches.

Material: Cotton seersucker | Fit: Slim fit, narrow through the shoulders, chest & waist | Care: Machine wash

This seersucker suit, in an unexpected color, helps transform this look from something casual into a piece that feels effortlessly cool. Make it your own with a patterned shirt, as seen here.

Material: 97% Cotton & 3% Lycra | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

From the skilled craftsmen of Italy’s Subalpino, this lightweight material provides great breathability. It looks especially great when paired with a textured tie and a fun pocket square.

Material: Italian stretch wool | Fit: Fits true to size in a relaxed fit, long sleeves | Care: Dry Clean

Made from Italian stretch wool, the material is woven with a high-twist yarn to create a modern seersucker texture. The garment features a semi-constructed, two-button silhouette, featuring a darted waist, partial lining, and interior pockets for a casual-chic style.

Material: Lightweight cotton seersucker | Fit: Trim fit, with a natural shoulder, a high armhole, 4¼" lapels, and a shorter length | Care: Dry Clean

Polo Ralph Lauren put a modern twist on the classic seersucker suit with a double-breasted opening, giving it a more refined and elevated look. The natural shoulder and a half-canvassed construction provide a lovely, comfortable fit.

Material: 100% cotton seersucker | Fit: Fits true to size | Care: Dry Clean

This brown and black striped garment is suitable to wear in any season and versatile enough to take you from day to night. The padded shoulders give this traditional suit a trendy twist, while the 100% cotton material feels soft and comfortable against your skin.

It's all about the fabric composition when it comes to seersucker suits. In order to ensure you're selecting pieces that will actually keep you cool in the warmer months, be sure to buy garments made from 100% cotton. And luckily, seersucker suits come in a variety of hues, so the options are limitless when it comes to finding a color that will fit your wedding theme and personal style.

In the warmer months, it's best to opt for suits in lightweight fabrics like seersucker, linen, and chambray. That said, if the wedding is indoors, you can get away with wearing heavier materials like wool, silk, and cashmere.

Suits in light tones like cream, beige, sand, and light grey are always a fitting choice for a summer wedding. Patterns like plaid, check, and pinstripes also work well if they feature light colors.

Traditionally, a black-tie dress code requires wedding guests to wear a tuxedo. While seersucker can be a formal fabric, it definitely leans more casual and is therefore not the best choice for a black-tie wedding.
